IT’S HARVEST FOR HUMANITY TIME!!!
What is Harvest for Humanity, you ask? Well, the simple answer to that is: we are trying to save the world one jar of peanut butter and one dollar at a time. Call it our “Cash for Chunky (peanut butter)” program. But, instead of a government rebate you’ll get a leg up on eternal salvation. What a deal!
Harvest for Humanity is a joint effort by Christian Social Services and Habitat for Humanity. Food is raised for CSS to help families with immediate needs, and funds help Habitat for Humanity help families with long term needs. Won’t you please join these two wonderful local charities in this unique project?
This year, our food drive will focus on one particular item of food that Christian Social Services says they wish they could give to every family that comes into their place for assistance. That key staple is PEANUT BUTTER!!! This particular food item is a good source of protein for families in need. Unlike most foods with protein, peanut butter has a good shelf life and needs no preparation or special storage needs. And, since Christian Social Services has lots of other nonperishable foods on hand, they really hope to get thousands of jars of peanut butter to provide to families that come to them for help. Hence, the PEANUT BUTTER PROJECT!!!
This is really a pretty simple project—instead of asking folks to bring a bag of nonperishable foods for the Harvest, we ask them to bring one jar of peanut butter with a dollar (or two, or five) wrapped around it. The funds will go to Habitat for Humanity so we can help a family in need move from unsuitable housing conditions into a decent home. The food helps struggling families right here in our community. Because we are only asking for one jar of peanut butter from donors, it could possibly mean more people actually participate in this Harvest than ever before.
We have designated October the Harvest month, in which everyone brings their peanut butter and dollars together. But, before they are delivered to Christian Social Services on October 30th, we encourage you to create something unique with your collection—take a photo of it and perhaps win a prize! Create a logo or mascot or a fanciful design made of hundreds of peanut butter jars and you might just win a prize and/or be the next Internet sensation!
